In a tech-driven world, staying ahead is not just an advantage but rather a necessity. Imagine the tech industry as a high-speed expressway, and to secure a spot in the fast lane, IT professionals must equip themselves with the right skills to remain competitive in the job market. As we look ahead to 2024, certain skills and roles will certainly be in high demand.

Data Science

According to the LinkedIn Emerging Jobs Report, data science is the fastest-growing industry globally, with a growth rate of over 650% since 2012. The market is slated to grow from $37.9 billion in 2019 to $230.80 billion by 2026. This growth is due to the increasing demand for data-driven models in businesses to streamline their processes. As data continues to grow exponentially, data scientists who can gather, analyze, and derive insights will be invaluable. Hard skills like Python, R, SQL, and data visualization will be essential. Soft skills like communication, business acumen, and the ability to translate data into actionable decisions for organizations will also be key. This indicates that data science is a promising career choice for those interested in the field.

Data Analytics

Since businesses can now gather so much information on their customers, competitors, goods, and services, there is a growing need for qualified individuals who can filter, evaluate, and present this data. We all know that the best decisions are supported by data. What makes pursuing a career in data analytics the best option? You will be equipped to handle a variety of responsibilities in a field that is constantly looking for qualified candidates.

Artificial Intelligence

According to a report by the National Skills Network, some of the top job roles in demand for Artificial Intelligence (AI) include AI Research Scientist, Machine Learning Engineer, Data Scientist, NLP Expert, and Computer Vision Engineer. AI is becoming more important to all jobs, and as more companies adopt AI and machine learning technologies, there will be a growing need for people who can develop and implement these solutions. Research has revealed that AI and machine learning are disrupting the way millions of people work, and workers will need to adopt new skills and commit to career-long training.

Cybersecurity

According to a report by Amazon Web Services (AWS), the demand for cloud skills in APAC is expected to triple by 2025. The report also highlights that cloud computing is one of the most in-demand skills for the next 10 years.

Internet of Things

The proliferation of smart devices and the Internet of Things will require skilled IT professionals to manage these connected technologies. IoT engineers and IoT solution architects will be needed as companies implement IoT systems. Hands-on experience with embedded systems, industrial IoT protocols like MQTT, and edge/fog computing will be advantageous.

Some other emerging roles

As technology reshapes business operations, newly created roles will emerge. Conversational designers will craft voice and chat experiences for smart devices and virtual assistants.
